Modality Is a Healing Space — Not a Place for Judgment

At Modality, we are blessed to witness so many beautiful moments. People walk into our space carrying the weight of their stories, and they allow themselves to breathe again. They stretch. They strengthen. They show up.

And we honor that.

We are not here to impress the world — we are here to serve. What we do is deeply intentional, heart-centered, and trauma-informed. That means we recognize that healing is not linear, and that people bring their pasts — emotional, spiritual, and physical — with them into the room.

That’s why everything we do has a purpose. Including our cameras.

This Is a Trauma-Informed Space

We don’t just say we care about trauma — we structure our entire approach around it. At Modality, you’ll find:

  • The freedom to modify or opt out of anything that feels unsafe

  • Clear boundaries around consent and participation

  • No pressure to share, perform, or “be okay” when you’re not

  • A gentle invitation into healing, never a demand

We also clearly inform every client in our terms, waivers, and in-studio signage that photography is part of the environment. Why? Because for many, it’s empowering to see themselves healing. They want to look back and say, “I made it.” We capture real-life moments — no modeling, no posing — just people in their element, proud of their process.

If a Camera Triggers You, We Understand — and Offer Alternatives

For some, cameras can bring up trauma, body image struggles, or control issues. And we understand that.

But that’s why we make it clear:

If being in a space where photography is happening is triggering for you, this may not be the right environment.

Our group classes are open to the public. While we always shoot with care and discretion, we cannot remove the camera for one person at the expense of others who find empowerment in it.

For those who need complete privacy or a more intimate setting, we encourage you to book a private session, where the space can be tailored to your needs.

We are here for everyone — but we cannot be everything for everyone. That’s part of being trauma-informed too: setting loving boundaries.

A Personal Note: The Incident

Recently, someone entered our space and verbally attacked me for simply existing as I am. She questioned my qualifications as a Pilates instructor because I also held a camera. She pointed in my face, raised her voice, and treated me — a 42-year-old professional — with condescension and disrespect.

What she didn’t understand is that I’m not just a photographer.

I’m not just a Pilates teacher.

I’m not just a woman running a business.

I’m also neurodivergent, creative, spiritual, and resilient.

I’ve held 39 jobs, survived America, migrated from a third-world country, built my life from scratch, and now I create space for others to heal.

And yes — I can be all of those things.

Being multifaceted is not a flaw. It’s a gift.

We Celebrate Stories, Not Status

The people in our photos are not influencers. They’re real people — mothers, survivors, students, caretakers, seniors — all coming to move through life’s pain and emerge with power. We will never take that away from them to appease someone who comes to control or critique.

We don’t take pictures of you. We take them for you — when you’re ready.

…if you don’t want them posted. No fuss. No arguments. No getting upset because OTHERS chose to do so and support themselves and the community. Micro aggressive behavior is not tolerated and anyone displaying such behaviors will be permanently banned from all Modality studios.

We’re here for those who are ready to heal, be seen, and take up space.

To Everyone Who’s Healing Here:

Thank you for your trust. Thank you for your presence. This is your home. And if you ever feel overwhelmed or emotionally activated during a session, you are always welcome to take a break, step outside, or let us know. We’ll never judge you — because we get it.

Modality is more than a wellness studio.

It’s a sacred space for growth.

Where trauma is respected.

Where consent matters.

Where healing is real.

And where you are always welcome — as you are.

With care and conviction,

Charlene Perez Jewett
